Together We Rise!
Impact
Making Change Happen
We started our movement by hosting events across Maharashtra to raise awareness. Our dedicated supporters spread our message widely, getting many people involved. Because of our efforts, the laws in Maharashtra changed, showing that when we work together, we can make a difference. Now, we want to expand these changes to all of India and the world to make sure everyone is treated equally.
Initiating Awareness
Our movement spread awareness far and wide by organizing gatherings throughout the state, including awareness sessions in Nashik, Pune, Jalgoan, Kolhapur, Pune Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Dhule, Navi Mumbai and many more towns.
In every program, our supporters have passionately explained our cause, sparking a wave of public awareness across the state.
Appeal to the Indian Ministry
In 2023, we wrote letters to the Prime Minister and President of India. We also sent letters to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the Governor of Maharashtra, asking them to consider our proposal. At the Sarpanch Parishad Convention Samelan, which is an association of 25,000 sarpanches (village leaders). During this event, we appealed the Chief Minister to turn our proposal into a law.
A BIG WIN AND A NEW BEGINNING IN
MAHARASHTRA
Our collective efforts led to a significant milestone – Maharashtra state government became the First State in India to recognize the importance of including both parents’ names in a child’s name.
Through the 4th women’s policy, the Maharashtra Government, on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2024) announced the mandate inclusion of mother’s name in all government documents such as birth certificates, school documents, property documents, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, etc. in the state of Maharashtra effective 1st May 2024.
First Sign of Implementation
A positive change has taken place at Mantralaya in Mumbai. The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, and all Cabinet Ministers now have plaques featuring a four-column name format that also includes their mothers' names.
Equality for Everyone, Everywhere
This victory is a testament to the power of our movement. By uniting and raising our voices, we not only initiated change but also secured a legal safeguard for a more inclusive naming tradition. We shall be working towards making this law across all states in India and globally too. Together, we’ve proven that a people’s movement can shape policies and create a lasting impact.
